Hello, this is Dr. Cha-Young Kang, the head of Nose Lab Clinic. Today, I’d like to share the detailed case of a patient who came to us concerned about her split nasal tip.

This patient, a woman in her late twenties, visited our clinic during the sweltering summer months. Her primary concern was her split nasal tip, which significantly impacted her self-confidence every time she looked in the mirror.

Doctor, my split nose bothers me so much. Is there any way to fix it?

A split nasal tip isn’t a common cosmetic concern. It often occurs in people with thin skin and thick cartilage, where an imbalance between the skin and cartilage at the nasal tip can create this appearance. This was the case for our patient.

We took a detailed look at the patient’s nasal condition.

Upon careful examination, we found that her nasal tip appeared blunt and split when viewed from the front, and her nasal bridge was wide. Her nose had a slight curve as well. From an oblique angle, the tip seemed flattened and broad, and she also had protrusive lips. The bridge of her nose was low, and her nasal tip looked compressed. Her nostrils appeared round and flared, while the overall structure showed a combination of a crooked and bulbous nose. On top of this, she suffered from nasal congestion and frequent runny nose symptoms.

To address these complex concerns—particularly the split nasal tip—we devised a meticulous surgical plan. The key elements included repositioning and suturing the nasal tip cartilage to unify the split appearance. We also extended the septum to add definition and corrected both the crooked and bulbous features of her nose.

Detailed Surgical Plan:

  • Reposition and suture nasal tip cartilage to correct the split tip.

  • Partial removal and grafting of subcutaneous tissue around the nasal tip to refine its contour.

  • Septal extension graft using harvested septal cartilage to provide support.

  • Elevating the nasal tip for better definition.

  • Correcting the deviated nose (crooked nose correction).

  • Refining the bulbous nose for a slimmer, more elegant look.

We performed the surgery using a closed rhinoplasty technique, which avoids external scarring and allows for a faster recovery with natural results.

First, we addressed the split nasal tip by repositioning the cartilage and using a suturing technique to merge the separated structures into a more cohesive form. This not only unified the tip but also gave it a refined, harmonious shape. Additionally, we removed some of the subcutaneous tissue around the nasal tip to enhance its definition.

Next, we harvested part of the septal cartilage to reinforce the structural support of the nasal tip, adjusting its projection and height. This step was crucial for creating a more three-dimensional appearance and was particularly helpful in correcting the split tip.

We also performed lateral osteotomies to straighten the crooked nose and narrow the wide nasal bridge. These refinements helped improve the overall symmetry, making the nose appear more natural and streamlined.

To improve her breathing issues, we performed a septoplasty and turbinate reduction to address her nasal obstruction, providing both functional and aesthetic improvements.

The most noticeable improvement was the correction of the split nasal tip, which now appeared unified and elegant. Her once-bulky nasal tip had been reshaped into a refined, sophisticated form, and her wide nasal bridge was significantly slimmed. The curvature of her nose was corrected, and her nasal tip was elevated to create a more defined, three-dimensional look. The overall harmony of her facial features was greatly enhanced.

From the front, the split nasal tip had been beautifully unified, and the bulky tip was sculpted into a sleeker shape. The broad nasal bridge was now slim and elegant, and the crooked appearance was corrected. From the oblique angle, the nasal tip, once flattened, now had proper elevation and definition, giving her a more refined look. The transition between her forehead and nose was smoother, and the elevated tip contributed to a balanced, attractive profile. Her nostrils, previously round and wide, were now more refined and proportional, further enhancing the overall result.

Doctor, it feels like a dream. I never imagined my split nose could look this beautiful!

Seeing her joyful smile reminded me once again of the deeper meaning behind rhinoplasty. Correcting a split nasal tip isn’t just about improving appearance; it’s about enhancing the entire structure and function of the nose while harmonizing it with the patient’s facial features.

If you’re struggling with a split nasal tip, it’s important to consult with a specialist to find the most suitable solution for your unique situation. Not all split nasal tips can be corrected the same way. The structure of your nose, the condition of your skin, and the overall balance of your facial features all need to be considered for a tailored approach.

At Nose Lab Clinic, we prioritize the safety and satisfaction of our patients, offering natural and healthy solutions for various nasal concerns, including split nasal tips.

For a healthier, more beautiful nose, Nose Lab Clinic is here for you.

Thank you,Dr. Cha-Young Kang, Head of Nose Lab Clinic.
