Correcting Nasal Asymmetry and a Deviated Nose: A Tailored Revision Rhinoplasty Case

noselab

Hello, this is Dr. Cha-Young Kang, Director of Nose Lab Clinic.

Today, I’d like to share the story of a patient who came to us after 15 years of coping with a deviated nose and asymmetrical nostrils. This case demonstrates how careful, personalized planning can make a meaningful difference in not only appearance but also quality of life.

1. A Long Journey Begins

Fifteen years ago, this patient underwent her first rhinoplasty, following the trend for a soft, arched nasal line, using ear cartilage, septal cartilage, and donor rib cartilage. Two years later, she added a lip-line adjustment surgery to complement her profile.

Over the years, however, subtle changes began to appear. Her right nostril base sank slightly, and the nostrils became noticeably asymmetrical, which caused her significant frustration and self-consciousness.

2. A New Hope with a Personalized Approach

When she visited Nose Lab Clinic, she asked, “Can you fix this nostril asymmetry?” Her question reflected years of concern. During her consultation, we thoroughly analyzed her facial structure and nasal contours, identifying several factors: an upturned nose, deviation, asymmetrical nostrils, a slight dip in the bridge, and a high starting point for the bridge. Despite these issues, we saw them as unique elements of her natural beauty that could be subtly refined to enhance her overall harmony.

3. Developing a Thoughtful Surgical Plan

Planning the surgery was like solving a puzzle, considering various options such as septal reconstruction, adjusting the alar cartilage, and replacing the implant. To improve the volume of the right nostril base, we planned to use ear cartilage or autologous rib cartilage for reconstruction.

4. A Remarkable Transformation

The results were transformative! Her nostril asymmetry was significantly improved, and the overall balance of her nose was restored. The line of her bridge looked natural from the side view, and her profile showed improvement in the previously protrusive appearance of her upper lip.

Most importantly, she smiled happily, expressing how pleased she was with the outcome. Her joy was contagious, reminding us of the profound impact that small adjustments can make.

5. A Message to You

This case reinforces an important lesson: correcting nasal asymmetry is not solely about symmetry—it’s about achieving harmony across the face. Perfect symmetry isn’t always the goal; sometimes, leaving a touch of “character” can enhance one’s natural beauty.

If you’re dealing with nostril asymmetry, a deviated nose, or an upturned tip, especially if facial asymmetry makes you hesitant about rhinoplasty, don’t lose hope. This case shows the importance of a personalized, structural approach that considers each individual’s unique facial attributes.

Nose Lab Clinic is committed to helping you achieve natural, healthy, and beautiful results. We’re here to support your journey to greater confidence and well-being.

Thank you,

Dr. Cha-Young Kang, Director of Nose Lab Clinic
