The Transformation of a Short Nose_Rhinoplasty Korea

noselab

Hello, this is Dr. Cha-Young Kang, the head surgeon at Nose Lab Clinic.

Today, I’d like to share a success story of endonasal (closed) rhinoplasty for a patient who was concerned about their short and low nose. This patient felt that their nose looked too small for their face due to a short, bulbous nasal tip and a low nasal bridge, especially in the glabella (the area between the eyebrows).

1. Pre-Surgery Analysis

Frontal View:

  • The patient had an overall low nasal bridge.

  • A prominent brow bone made the glabella look sunken.

  • The nose appeared small compared to the rest of the face.

  • The nasal tip was bulbous and wide.

Profile View:

  • The brow bone was protruding.

  • The glabella was significantly sunken.

  • The nasal tip was short and small.

  • The overall projection of the nose was low.

Oblique View:

  • The glabella depression was more pronounced from this angle.

  • The short height and small length of the nose were clearly visible.

Nostril View:

  • The nostrils were asymmetrical and appeared wide.

2. Surgical Plan

To address the patient’s concerns, we developed a detailed surgical plan that included the following:

  • Septal extension graft using autologous rib cartilage to lengthen and support the nasal tip.

  • Silicone implant to elevate the nasal bridge and raise the glabella.

  • Correction and augmentation of the nasal tip using autologous rib cartilage to create a more defined and taller nasal tip.

  • Nasal bridge reshaping to form a smooth and natural straight-line profile.

3. Surgical Process

Using a closed (endonasal) approach, the surgery was conducted as follows:

a) Autologous Rib Cartilage Harvest and Septal Extension

b) Silicone Implant for Raising the Glabella

c) Correction of the Nasal Tip

d) Nasal Bridge Line Adjustment

4. Surgical Results

Frontal View:

  • The nasal bridge was naturally elevated, giving the face better balance.

  • The improved glabella created a more harmonious appearance.

  • The nose now had a proportionate size that complemented the patient’s facial features.

  • The nasal tip was refined, making it appear more elegant and natural.

Profile View:

  • The protrusion of the brow bone was minimized due to the elevated glabella.

  • The nasal bridge appeared naturally higher, providing a balanced look.

  • The nasal tip projection and length were enhanced, making the nose more proportional.

  • The overall projection and structure of the nose were improved, adding a sense of depth to the face.

Oblique View:

  • The glabella-nose connection looked smoother, creating a more cohesive and natural appearance.

  • The length and height of the nose were corrected, improving facial proportions.

  • The newly formed straight-line profile gave the patient a more refined and sophisticated look.

6. Summary

Key points to highlight from this case:

  1. Use of Autologous Rib Cartilage: By using the patient’s own cartilage, the results were both safe and natural.

  2. Raising the Glabella: Elevating the nasal bridge significantly improved the overall facial balance.

  3. Endonasal Approach: This technique helped minimize scarring and allowed for a faster recovery.

  4. Natural Results: The surgery focused on subtle, refined changes, ensuring the nose matched the patient’s facial harmony.

7. Conclusion

For those concerned about having a small or low nose, this case serves as a great example of how rhinoplasty can provide balanced, natural-looking results. Rhinoplasty isn’t just about altering the nose, but also ensuring it fits in with the rest of the face for a harmonious appearance.
